A Roundup! The Most Memorable GC Halftime Shows
It’s official, Keith Urban will take centre stage for the Freedom Mobile Halftime Show at the 107th Grey Cup presented by Shaw!
A Grey Cup halftime performance can be almost as iconic as the game itself.
It can also be the perfect ribbon on a game – hello, Shania at the 2017 Grey Cup. The Argos EPIC comeback, the snow AND Shania’s performance (and dogsled entrance) collectively made it an instant Canadian classic. Music is deeply personal so it is only natural people love to weigh in on the choice for Grey Cup halftime artist and predictably recap the performance the Monday after Grey Cup. What makes this performance so special is that for a few minutes the country enjoys a concert together. It’s a unique scenario of a mega star performing (primarily) outdoors, in Canada, in late November specifically for Canadian Football League fans – it’s magic.
We wanted to look back at some of the most iconic performances from Grey Cup’s of the past and we know you guys have your favourites – so keep the conversation going by commenting or posting on social to share your favourite Grey Cup halftime show.
Last year Grammy winner Alessia Cara took down the Brick Field with her performance. The proud Canadian played hit after hit and had the whole stadium singing along!
We’ve already mentioned it, but the 2017 Grey Cup became an instant classic thanks in no small part to Canadian icon Shania Twain. We will NEVER get over her dog-sled entrance and dazzling outfit.
This is still a fan favourite – Ryan Tedder and OneRepublic performing in front of a lit up crowd at BMO Field. Tedder remarked it was a perfect night for football and we couldn’t agree more.
The 100th Grey Cup in Toronto is legendary and so is this Carly Rae Jepsen/ Justin Bieber halftime show!
I’m not sure it gets more Canadian than a Tragically Hip Grey Cup halftime show – this one is worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. Try not to get emotional (it’s not possible).
The Black Eyed Peas were the first non Canadian act to perform at a Grey Cup and since then we have hosted some incredible artists. This halftime definitely got people talking.
