Lions vs. Blue Bombers Prediction: CFL Week 10 Point Spread, Odds
August 15, 2019, 8:30 PM ET | IG Field
Week 10 of the CFL season opens up on Thursday night with the largest point spread of the week. The Blue Bombers started the week as 12-point favourites, home to the Lions, as the West’s best team faces its worst team.
CFL Odds and BettingThis is the second and final regular season match-up of the year between these two teams. The Blue Bombers opened the season in Vancouver with a 33-23 win over the Lions. Andrew Harris was the game star in that one racing for 148 yards on 16 carries against his former team.
The Leos have had their problems against the Bombers, as they are 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games in Winnipeg. They are also 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games against the Bombers overall.
The Bombers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games dating back to last season, and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Of note, the over has hit on 80 percent of the time (in the last 10 games) when these two teams have met.
The Lions are off to a brutal 1-7 start, but may have hit rock bottom (or at least they hope they have) with a 35-34 loss last week in Hamilton. If you missed it, the Lions held a 15 point lead heading into the 4th quarter and saw it slip away allowing 13 points against in the final 3:19 to lose by that single point.
The team received some good news at practice on Monday as Quarterback Mike Reilly was a full participant taking first team snaps. There was some fear that he’d miss some time because of an ankle injury he suffered against the Tiger-Cats. He will start against the Lions, but will not be 100 percent.
On Monday the team re-acquired Shawn Lemon from the Argos for Devon Coleman and a draft pick. The move re-unites Lemon with Odell Willis who were monsters on the defensive line last season. That’s great news for the Lions who have failed to record a sack in the last three games and recorded a CFL-low seven Quarterback sacks this season. Last season Lemon had an immediate impact on the team recording 10 sacks in 13 games and watched the team go 6-3 after Labour Day. The Lions are hoping history repeats itself.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Blue Bombers are coming off a big bounce back game with a win over the Stampeders (26-24) last week, after a loss to the winless Argos the week before.
In the win against the Stamps, the team scored points on two punt returns from Janarion Grant – the only two majors from the team in the game. For a third time this season Matt Nichols threw for under 200 yards passing, and that seems to be a problem with the team’s offence. The team is also ranked 7th in passing yards per game with 230.8 points, and 7th in two-and-out possessions with 46.
On the positive side, the Bombers offence ranks second in the league averaging 26.4 points per game, and first in passing touchdowns (15), and first in offensive touchdowns (23). They also boast the league’s leading rusher in Andrew Harris with 746 yards. The team has a 6-2 record, but it’s been a boom or bust kind of season for the offence.
