Alouettes officially sign corner Ciante Evans
MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes have signed veteran defensive back Ciante Evans, the team announced Wednesday.
The news was initially reported by TSN 690’s Joey Alfieri.
Evans, 26, was an integral part of the Calgary Stampeders’ defence throughout four seasons, tallying 127 tackles and nine interceptions in 48 games. He also recorded an interception in the 106th Grey Cup presented by Shaw last November, helping the Stamps defeat the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
Last season Evans player 15 games for the Stampeders, recording two interceptions and a forced fumble as his team claimed the top record in the league.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Evans is a late addition to what’s shaping up to be one of the CFL’s most impressive secondaries heading into the new season. The Nebraska product joins former Stampeders teammate Tommie Campbell and three-time CFL All-Star Taylor Loffler at safety.
Evans was himself a CFL All-Star in 2017 as well as a CFL West All-Star in 2018. After the 2018 season ended, he lined up for the Salt Lake Stallions in the AAF over the winter, making four tackles in as many games.
Evans will report to Montreal, where the Als are taking part in training camp at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. The Alouettes open their pre-season slate on June 30 with a trip to Toronto.
