CFL Pass

Red Deer Roundup: (Still) awaiting free agency…

We are officially less than a week from CFL Free Agency and the actual regular-season *schedule* is close to being released, too. I need to plan out my summer weekends so hopefully that comes out sooner than later...

•  Two-time Grey Cup Champion Shea Emry hangs up the cleats after eight CFL seasons. Emry was once voted the CFL’s Nastiest Player but retires to put concussions behind him for good. Is this becoming the norm?

•  Another long-time Montreal Alouette has retired as well, with Eric Deslauriers retiring after nine CFL seasons. He’ll stay in Montreal as a Scout and Football Operations Assistant. Deslauriers will always be the guy that caught Anthony Calvillo’s historic 395th touchdown pass.

•  Could Chad Owens be heading to the open market? Apparently he and the Toronto Argonauts are quite far apart in contract negotiations…

•  Offensive linemen Wayne Smith will be sticking around T-dot for another two years though. I’m not sure the 12-year veteran 320-pounder will be returning kicks for the Boatmen anytime soon though...

•  Tuesday was the 15th Anniversary of the XFL’s inaugural season. He Hate Me.

•  We can all stop speculating now. Andrew Harris will not be back in British Columbia in 2016.

•  What’s Macho Man Rider Savage going to do?! Macho Harris is taking his great “flow” to Winnipeg with Weston Dressler.

•  Montreal has at least one thing to look forward to in 2016: Stefan Logan, who has re-signed with the team.

•  Jason Maas and completed his coaching staff in Edmonton. The title defense begins.

•  Now we know how much season tickets are going to cost in Toronto. Here’s hoping fans of the Double Blue can pack BMO Field!

•  Hmm...could the 2013 Grey Cup MVP be back in the CFL next season?

But who’s “they”? Definitely not *this* Rider fan!

•  It looks like Buck Pierce is going to be the Quarterback Coach in Winnipeg. It’s good to see one of those “good guys” moving up the coaching ranks.

•  Are the Eskimos going to lose Kenny Stafford? He proved to be a valuable deep threat for the Esks in 2015.

I almost forgot about those. Thanks, Nik! (Unblock me on Twitter...?)

Now bring on free agency already!
