Eskimos versus … Lions? Edmonton media gives Stamps motivation
The last thing a team wants to do heading into a playoff game is to give their opponent “bulletin board material” – a little extra motivation to inspire them in the locker room.
You *never* want the local media to provide that material for you.

Somehow an Edmonton newspaper posted an ad surrounding the West Final saying the Eskimos would be playing the *BC Lions*. Stamps fans were all over it on Twitter Tuesday and it eventually got to star quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell. The defending Grey Cup Champions are good enough *without* the “bulletin board material”.
From Mark Messier in 1994 to Broadway Joe’s Super Bowl III guarantee, athletes have used to media to inspire their own team or, in some cases, the opponents…
Just last season, BC Lions President and CEO Dennis Skulsy guaranteed a win [Link: http://bclions.com/article/lions-guarantee-win-on-sunday-against-the-riders] over the Saskatchewan Roughriders saying that every fan in attendance would get free tickets to a game later in the season. Let’s just say thousands of fans went home happy after that game.
It’s not often a 14-4 team is considered an “underdog” heading into a playoff game, but you’d better believe the Stampeders will enter Commonwealth Stadium with a huge chip on their shoulders…
