CFL goes global for playoffs, Grey Cup
One of the strengths new CFL Commissioner Jeffrey Orridge brought with him was his savvy in the digital realm.
Orridge was the man behind the digital presence the Olympics had in Canada in 2014, so when he was appointed commish, many wondered when the Canadian Football League would go digital.
It didn’t take long. The CFL will stream every single playoff game, including the Grey Cup, on YouTube *for free* and it is believed to the first professional sports league to do such a thing.
Note that Canadians that have cut the cord on their cable bill will be out of luck, however:
The Grey Cup playoffs will be available in more than 100 countries around the world and those troops serving abroad will have an opportunity to feel at home with the ability to stream Canada’s November tradition.
While Orridge has been silent on major issues this year, including penalty flags and the frequent displacement of the Argonauts, this move is exactly what fans were hoping for from him.
