Argonauts top Bombers, announce playoff QB
Immediately after his team beat Winnipeg, 21-11, in the season’s final instalment of Friday Night Football, head coach Scott Milanovich announced who would start at quarterback for his Toronto Argonauts in the East semifinal game against either Hamilton or Ottawa.
It’s downright weird to see Toronto’s nominee for Most Outstanding Player, Trevor Harris, sit on the sidelines *without* an injury for the playoffs. It’s tough to ignore the Hall of Fame resume of Ricky Ray though.
But Toronto’s Friday night win was not without “loss”…
The Florida A&M product had over 600 yards receiving and eight touchdowns in his first year in the CFL within a receiving core that includes three more rookies in Diontae Spencer, Tori Gurley and Vidal Hazelton.
Despite the loss, Toronto’s win was a nice send off for the final Argonauts game to ever be played at Rogers Centre. It was almost like a throwback to 2012 with Ricky Ray, Chad Kackert, and Dave Stala all making plays on the Toronto side of the ball. Even though there were plenty of good memories in that building (my personal favourites being two Roughrider Grey Cups in 1989 and 2007), it’s time for a new start and BMO Field will be a perfect fit for North America’s oldest professional football franchise.
