Milanovich sits Gurley; more Argos news

The Toronto Argonauts have secured themselves a playoff spot but with the season ending next weekend, the team isn’t exactly playing inspiring football. They’ve lost two straight and Jonathon Jennings along with a very confident BC Lions team is heading to Rogers Centre on Friday night hungry for a win.

Toronto has put all their eggs in the Trevor Harris basket throughout the season and it’s worked quite well but, as I wrote on Saturday, the magic may be gone. This Friday, Scott Milanovich will be turning to Ricky Ray in hopes that this QB’s experience will get the team on the right track.

But that’s not the only change Milanovich is making to the roster.

This isn’t the first time Milanovich has sat one of his star rookie receivers down, either. Vital Hazelton was forced to sit due to undisciplined penalties and now their leading receiver Tori Gurley will be riding the pine due to questionable sideline behavior.

Quite a ballsy move considering how critical this Friday’s game is. Gurley has 10 touchdowns and nearly 800 yards in his first CFL season but he’s going to need to learn this lesson fast if he wants to get back on the field.

Former Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys receiver Phil Bates will make it onto the roster the first time this Friday after being signed on October 1st. Bates didn’t see any meaningful time in the National Football League but the 26-year-old has the opportunity of a lifetime with a future Hall of Fame quarterback throwing him the rock to make things just a little bit easier.

The only thing going right for the Argos these days is that they’ll be playing their remaining home games at Rogers Centre after being booted during the month of October. Maybe some continuity will help the Boatmen turn this ship around…
