Jennings brings BC one step closer to playoffs
Another day, another impressive performance by BC’s rookie sensation at quarterback Jonathon Jennings.
I want to keep my expectations low because it’s such a small sample size but it sure looks like Wally Buono has found the next big thing. The Lions may have made a mistake by going with Travis Lulay over Mike Reilly for the long run, but it sure didn’t take them long to find their quarterback of the future.
In just five starts this season, Jennings has thrown for 1,493 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions – and two of those starts have been against the deadly Eskimos defense and this latest victory was against a pretty stellar Tiger-Cat defense. You have to assume Manny Arceneaux likes having Jennings there to throw him the ball: Six of those 10 TD passes have gone to “The Manny Show”, and he’s finally helping a lot of fantasy owners that have had the patience to keep him on the roster.
If I’m the Calgary Stampeders or Edmonton Eskimos, the BC Lions are the team I don’t want to face as the playoffs draw near. BC has a game in hand over the Blue Bombers and the advantage of only needing to tie Montreal to prevent the Alouettes from crossing over to the West semifinal. Jennings and the Lions are peaking at the right time and are ready to give some teams a lot of trouble as we get ready for the 103rd Grey Cup…
