CFL Pick ‘Em, week 14, part 1: Stampeders good, Bombers … not so much
At least I came off the disabled list strong. When the dust had settled and the meds wore off, CFLpass managed a 3-1 mark in CFL Pick ‘Em week 13. Finally, two-thirds of the way through this season, it’s all making sense. Or it’s the Vicodin. Here’s to hoping there’s no penalties for doping in Pick ‘Em.
Does any team look more Grey Cup-ready than the Calgary Stampeders? Run down the checklist: Solid offensive line? Zero sacks allowed last week confirms check.
Consistency at quarterback? Bo Levi Mitchell is one of two CFL QBs to have started every game for his team this season. Check.
Offensive weaponry? WRs Eric Rogers and Marquay McDaniel have amassed exactly 1,700 yards between them, more than any other duo in the league this season. And Jon Cornish, the CFL’s top rusher for years running, is back. Emphatic check.
Perhaps it’s the defense which keeps the hype machine from boiling over and making the Stamps the prohibitive Grey Cup champion. The ugly week 12 loss to Edmonton featured not only an off performance from Bo, but a torching of the secondary by Mike Reilly & Co. Stamps DBs got beat deep often – particularly by Adarius Bowman in this case – and Eskimos receivers piled up the yards after catch as well.
Figure in the shorter term that Winnipeg won’t be exploiting such mismatches this week, however. And in the long term, the Stamps still have six games to get things humming every week. As a whole, Calgary should be scary in this year’s playoffs. They will be scary this week in Winnipeg. A whopping 92% of CFL Pick ‘Em players say it’s Calgary Stampeders over Winnipeg Blue Bombers and CFLpass has to agree.
