Tom Higgins relieved of duties in Montreal
Nine weeks into the CFL season, we have been presented with our first coaching casualty of the year.
This seems like a bizarre move on the surface, considering the Alouettes went 8-2 in the final ten weeks of the 2014 season and own a 3-5 record this year despite rolling with a rookie quarterback.
Perhaps Higgins got into hot water regarding some of the strange personnel decisions he’s made as of late.
#Alouettes DE Bowman is practising on first team defence as part of pass-rushing drills.— John Lu (@JohnLuTSNMtl) August 23, 2015
I can’t see it as just a coincidence that Bowman is back with the first team defense two days after Higgins is gone.
The firing comes at a strange time, especially since Montreal is coming off a huge road win at BC Place – the Alouettes’ first W there in fifteen years.
Many will look back at Higgins’ tenure as “mediocre,” but the Als have started *five* different quarterbacks in the past year. A recipe for success, that is not.
It’s fair to say that not many people saw this decision coming especially since there’s a certain green team with an 0-8 record that’s *still* sticking with their coach.
