Three more years with Calgary Stampeders for Juwan Simpson
Simpson, eh? Not exactly one of the drones in Sector 7-G, perennial all-star and defensive team captain Juwan Simpson has received a three-year extension from the defending champion Calgary Stampeders in what may ultimately go down as one of this CFL preseason’s best contract deals.
Kudos to Calgary management to retaining the 30-year-old lifetime Stampeder in what appears to be a mutually beneficial relationship thus far. All seven seasons of his CFL career has Simpson been with the Pedes as part of a defensive nucleus that has remained alongside him.
Clearly, this one was a no-brainer: “I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else but Calgary,” said Simpson as quoted on the official league website. “I love playing with the guys on this team, especially the group on defence that arrived in Calgary with me in 2008 — Charleston Hughes, Keon Raymond and Brandon Smith.”
Good for Stampeders backers, then, to know that the championship-winning status quo will be maintained for 2015; the chances of a repeat are certainly just a wee bit better today.
Perhaps if Calgary indeed takes the Grey Cup again, Simpson’s teammates will keep him away this time – he just kills those things. Literally.
