It’s about time we should expect nothing short of craziness during Week 1 of the CFL season but if I told you that nothing surprised me this past weekend, I’d be lying. When will I learn? I didn’t expect the Argos to get crushed while ushering in a new era at BMO Field or for Trevor Harris to throw a 70+ yard touchdown on his first play with Ottaw

Almost a year ago to the day, I nervously sent in my picks ahead of the 2015 season and felt pretty good about what I predicted. I didn’t predict Montreal missing the playoffs for the first time since returning to the city, I didn’t predict Saskatchewan’s implosion or Ottawa’s *ex*plosion along with the now infamous “2nd and 25”. I was actually p

Time for just a bit more math before I make my official predictions for the 2016 CFL season.  This time, let's take a look at Pythagorean Expectation over the past 10 years, and how it can be used to aid in predictions for this season. Now, I've based a lot of my work at CFLpass on the fact that teams that underachieve their Pythagorean Expectati

I’m still stuck on how interesting the CFL standings have been over the years, but for once, I came up with an idea that didn’t involve hours of research and a lot of math. For this week’s deep dive into CFL history, let’s look at the crossover – or more specifically, the lack thereof – at points in history. I’m looking for times when the crossove

Red Deer roundup: Ending a painful six months

Football season is *finally* upon us. It has been a painful six months of arguing about new logos, jerseys, and compensation. With rookie camp already underway and main camp starting this Sunday, now we can focus on what’s happening on the field. It’s about time. •  Looks! Juwan Simpson is back in Calgary... As a guest coach. I still think Simpso

The eye of the storm...that’s exactly the point of the offseason we were stuck in this week. Last week had the excitement of the draft and the amazing jersey reveal. This week we were left with some goofy radio host in Toronto that made a feeble attempt at running down the Canadian Football League. And as always, CFL fans took the bait. Honestl

I have already established that it’s not easy to go from one extreme to the other in the CFL standings, first examining teams going from worst to first and then first to worst, but that just made me wonder how likely each finish was based off of where teams had placed the year before. Before I go too far into this, note this isn’t an exact science

This week officially has me excited for CFL Football to return: Tuesday’s draft will bring 70 more players to the league and Thursday’s jersey unveil has me ready to open my wallet. I just can’t wait to see the new uniforms on the field! •  Josiah St. John out of Oklahoma was drafted number one overall by the Saskatchewan Roughriders to kick off T

Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called “offseason”. Electric word “offseason” and that’s a mighty long time but I’m here to tell ya, there’s something else … the CFL Podcast Family. A world of neverending happiness where you can get your football fix, day ... or night… (Thank you and R.I.P. Prince) Over the la
